I attended my niece’s wedding today. The first of the four family weddings scheduled for this summer. My sister and I have the same plight, both having two children getting married within a few months of each other.
The wedding had an Irish theme, as you might expect with her groom’s last name being O’Neill and Cari having been born on St. Patrick’s Day. It was simple and beautiful. I was especially fond of the toasts made by the best man and the maid of honor. The best man was the brother of the groom and honored his brother with memories of their youth and a traditional Irish toast to the couple. The maid of honor, my niece Caitlin and sister of the bride, did the same, but added a special and poignant salute to their Grandpa “Dutch” who passed away just a couple of weeks ago. It was moving and very memorable. Another high point was my 14 year old son catching the garter. THAT WAS FUNNY!
So, it’s been a very busy week that has ended on a sweet note. I’ve had lovely visits with family, worn my new purple dress, eaten my piece of wedding cake and kicked off my high heels. Off to bed for a little snooze and tomorrow I’ll host my daughter Annie’s prospective in-laws and attend the first of her bridal showers. Her fiance will have a shower of his own tomorrow evening. His friends and male family members are throwing a tool shower for him. Boys just hate to be left out of all the fun of opening packages! 🙂
Never a dull moment around here!
