Mmmmm, donuts! September 14, 2007

Jammolee’s Donuts opened this week just in time to completely challenge my resolve to start my “new healthy way of living.” You see, I could pass up most bakeries. I’m not addicted to sweets for breakfast as a general rule. But this is different. This bakery purchased the famous recipe used in Fulton’s most successful bakeries for decades.

It all started many, many years ago when a family called the Baumeister’s came to Fulton, bringing with them old family recipes for donuts and pastries. The Baumeister Bakery was very well known and no other bakery was able to duplicate the delectable donuts and pastries. When the Baumeister’s retired, they passed the recipe along to one of their employees who continued to run a bakery for years under the name Harold’s Bakery. After Harold retired, there was a lapse for a bit and then his son-in-law Rusty opened a bakery with the old recipes. There was a great sugar rush available once again in Fulton.

Rusty closed the bakery a few years ago and we all thought that was the end. Then, another baker successfully purchased the old recipes from Rusty and under his tutelage opened a brand new business called Jamolee’s Donuts.

This morning, I left the house at 6:15 a.m. I stood in line and purchased jelly rolls, chocolate long john’s, chocolate cinnamon rolls, twists and donuts. My son Allen and I sat at the dining room table like a couple of addicts who had too long been without their fix. It was incredible…

If any of you readers out there are interested in trying these out, you can find our little sugar oasis at:

Baby shower! September 10, 2007

Filed under: My View on Events — auntlelo @ 7:10 am

We had a great time on Sunday as we helped Matt and Niki get ready for their new baby, due to arrive in November. I think everyone in our little office bunch tends to be pretty practical and our offerings reflected that pretty well. Following the family showers and the office one, it sounds like baby girl Stanley will want for nothing the first few months of her life. In fact, her papa already made the statement that “she has more clothes than we do.” Ahhh, papa, if you only knew how that statement will come to describe the rest of your life as a parent.

We always seem to enjoy getting together for a little event outside work. People in our group like to visit (after all, we are in PR). It was good to see everyone’s husband’s, wives and baby George was also in attendance. I posted a few shots of the shower on FlickR (see below right). Enjoy!

Looking forward to fall September 6, 2007

It’s been a long hot summer and I’m looking forward to fall. I’m sure I’m not alone. The best of summer is long past. The world outside is starting to look a little tired and crunchy. We need a little rain and some crisp mornings to reinvigorate us and make us look forward to spending time outdoors again.

Fall may seem like an end to some, but, to me it’s an important beginning. The beginning of holiday season. I love the fall because it brings color and football season with marching bands and tailgating. I love it because it’s the time of year for making all things out of apples: apple pie, apple sauce, apple dumplings. It’s the time to dig out the sweaters and jackets that I adore, mostly because they cover up more of me! It’s also time for family gatherings. Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner.

This year, fall will also bring a new grandson. Our daughter will be having a little boy in November and this will be the first grandson. We’ve already been blessed with three beautiful granddaughters. It will truly be a time of Thanksgiving at our house this season.

What are your favorite things about fall?

I’ll bet you thought I’d completely given up writing in my blog. No, not given up. Just taking a bit of a break. There’s nothing wrong, just couldn’t seem to find the time or the inspiration to write anything the past few days.

Maybe you folks who are readers of my blog could help me to get past the writer’s block I have and inspire me to get back to work. What sort of things do you most like to read? Share your thoughts and I promise I’ll get cracking again.
